OUR THEORY OF CHANGE
When people and institutions become intentional about internal transformation (examining, accepting, responding, and mitigating internal biases) they are better positioned to authentically examine and change inequitable behaviors, language and practices resulting in a more equitable and just experience for everyone within their sphere of influence.
OUR APPROACH
The basic philosophy of our approach is by working from the” inside – out”. It is our belief and experience that sustainable transformation of self and spaces we occupy is possible when we actively work to align our values with our behaviors, practices, and language.
COACHING IN COMMUNITY
We coach using an A: B: A model.
A: Individual meeting with KJ
B: Meeting with KJ and additional consultant based on race/ethnicity or other identified diversity dimension.

RISE COLLECTIVE COACHING FOR ORGANIZATIONSWe use the teach, coach, relate and facilitate model to support our approach to collective coaching. We provide a video the week before meeting to enhance collective learning, dialogue and workshopping of challenges. Each week highlights a different topic. Group coaching is limited to 20 participants per cohort.
We have learned to use our individual uniqueness and collective wisdom in how we see, hear and understand to provide a more holistic and in-depth experience for those in the coaching relationship.
We share similar yet very different personal and professional experiences. Our views, responses, and strategies reflect the influence of multiple identities. This is the magic in our collaborative approach to coaching.
We intentionally examine issues from several perspectives and ask our partners to do the same. We believe that collaborative coaching provides a deeper sense of community, accountability, and connection.
Our primary goal is to help leaders identify the conditions necessary for the learning, development and application of their skills, competencies, and passion.
Our approach is simple but effective. We engage in activities, dialogue and reflection exercises focused on:
1. Understanding one’s identities and biases and the explicit/implicit messages influencing how they show up in decision making, staff engagement, and the development of policy.
2. Openly challenging self-limiting beliefs and offering alternative perspectives, opportunities for paradigm shifting and the expansion of knowledge.
3. Understanding the impact and influence of one’s communication and conflict style within the workplace.
4. Workshopping real time issues and engaging in joint problem solving. The client partner takes sole responsibility for any final decisions made regarding their personal or professional sphere of influence.
5. Providing guidance on how to maintain a positive and healthy sense of self identity despite navigating racism, bias, and oppression by ensuring:
a. emotional and psychological needs are properly resourced.
b. the locus of one’s power comes from a belief in self-worth.
c. external actions and behaviors are aligned with internal values and convictions
6. Addressing self-directed bias (internalized inferiority and superiority) and counteracting its impact by guiding the client partner in:
a. raising awareness,
b. learning mitigating strategies,
c. accepting accountability and
d. properly resourcing oneself to achieve internal balance and health
